What is an Air Gun and What Are They Typically Used For?

While it may seem like a new development, the first air guns were developed as early as the 16th century. In fact, air guns represent the oldest pneumatic technology. Air guns are different from other guns in that they use pressurized air instead of a chemical reaction (like firearms do) in order to launch a projectile. They come in both rifle and pistol forms. 

There are a few different ways an air gun can be powered. For instance, spring-piston, compressed gas (usually carbon dioxide), and pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) technology. Most of our air guns here at A.E. Swede in Utah, USA use pneumatic technology.
